Conveniently located on the scenic Lighthouse Route between the quintessential seaside town of Mahone Bay, and the UNESCO World Heritage Town of Lunenburg. You can witness boat builders at work building schooners or dories on the waterfront or at the moment (Summer 2011) visit the rebuild of Canada's Queen of the Atlantic- The Bluenose II which is the sailboat on our dime. You will also find an incredible Farmers Market every Thursday in Lunenburg with fresh veggies, organic meats, fresh baked bread and sooo much more. The area is perfect for relaxation, a day at the beach, a hike in the woods, sea kayaking at the quaint village of Blue Rocks. Also great for biking (we have bikes for hire), and there are numerous day trips that can be done from our hostel, the Trans Canada trail passes behind us in the woods, it is a short walk on the road then a logging road to access it, which can be done on mountain bikes.

But wait: there's more! We have Ironworks Distillery with their premium hand-crafted spirits made on site year round, as well as the hugely popular Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival and Mahone Bay Pirate Festival which have entertainment for everyone.

It is not hard to see why TV shows like Haven, Stone Cold, and movies like Moby Dick, Dolores Claiborne, Amelia Earhart, and Candles on Bay St were filmed here.

Less than 20 minutes away is Hirtle's Beach, a surfers' favorite for its rugged natural beauty, and at the end of the beach is the popular Gaff Point Hiking Trail. To get there you pass The Ovens Sea Caves and the popular Sand Dollar Beach where you can often find sand dollars at low tide. We have a very scenic waterfall a short drive away, with a great swimming hole to cool off in on warm summers days.

We have three sailing companies nearby, one will take a group for five hours stopping on an island for lunch, for less than $200. There is also shark diving and fishing trips nearby, or you could always choose to relax on a boat trip around some of the 365 Islands in Mahone Bay or visit a mussel farm where you can buy fresh mussels & cook them back in the hostel. We are an hour from Halifax, Peggy's Cove, or the Annapolis Valley.

Our backpacker hostel in Lunenburg & Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia can be rented like a cottage! New in 2011, you can rent the whole cottage which sleeps up to 11 people. It's close to both Mahone Bay and Lunenburg, as well as plenty of beaches, trails, museums, art galleries, shops and more.
